Livestream Setup

One of the methods that a livestream can be setup is to attach it to a single product. The customer purchases a ticket of that product type and from their confirmation page is able to view their access code and access the stream. It is also possible to setup a livestream with a schedule item.

Stream Setup

Event Setup

In order to enable the livestream options in the event, the event must first be flagged as a virtual event. After flagging, new livestream options become available:

  1. Select the gear icon in the top of the page
  2. Select Manager Options
  3. Toggle Virtual Event to Yes
  4. Select Update Event

Stream Style

The livestream page will pull in the event background image to use as it’s background.  You can upload a background image in the Event Setup > Style area.

There are also 3 additional global color options that can be set to help with some of the styling and highlighting on the stream page.  These options are also found in the Event Setup > Style area.  Use the color picker to set your colors.

The background image and global color options can be overwritten on a per stream basis during livestream creation.

Livestream Setup

Once your event is set as a virtual event, you can create your livestream and attach it to either a product or schedule item.

Products

When editing a product, enable the Livestream Product flag.  This flag enables the confirmation page, email confirmation, and other things to behave like a livestream.

Schedule Items

You can find the link to the livestream creation page for a schedule item on the schedule index page under Actions > Manage Livestream.

Livestream Settings

The Livestream setup screen is the same for both products and schedule items.  All of the fields are passed along to the stream page and are used to build out the stream page and control the behaviour of the stream countdown, etc.

The Livestream Start Time field is used to determine when attendees can get access from their order confirmation page.

The global event livestream style settings can be overridden here.

Provider

Make sure to select Yes on Generate Livestream and select your provider and DRM option.  Doing this will create the livestream event within the streaming service and generate your stream key.

If for whatever reason the livestream is cancelled, you can come back here and toggle the Cancelled dropdown.  This will relay that information to attendees on their confirmation page and not present the livestream links.

Once the livestream has been created, additional details will become available. Specifically the RTMP stream link and the Stream Key.

This information will need to be entered into whatever streaming software the event is using to broadcast their stream.  There is also a link to the livestream page in the streaming service.  A valid access code is required to access this page.  Either a voucher or a paid ticket will work.  A link to this page is provided to attendees from their confirmation page an hour before the event.

The livestream supports 3rd party chat clients that have iFrame support.  We currently recommend Arena.im as an easy to use and relatively inexpensive solution. If you want to use this chat functionality, set Chat Enabled to Yes and enter the url of the iFrame into the provided field.  The chat iFrame will be attached to your livestream details and passed along to the livestream page.

Livestream Dashboard

The livestream dashboard can be found in the navigation under Event Setup.

The Livestream Dashboard is a page where an event organizer can find information for all of their livestreams. It’s organized with current and future livestreams at the top and past livestreams at the bottom.  There is also a dedicated Edit button for each livestream.

Attendee Experience

After an attendee makes their purchase they will have a box visible on their confirmation page with information about the livestream event.

At the designated time, the livestream link will become available.

Here is an example of a cancelled livestream.

When the attendee clicks on the Click Here to Access Livestream button, their access code is automatically populated.  All they need to do is agree to the terms of service and Start Watching!
